THE 6th PAGEV INTERNATIONAL PACKAGING CONGRESS is on OCTOBER 22, in ISTANBUL

The PAGEV Congress will discuss "Current Threats and Opportunities in Plastics Packaging"

Despite being one of the fastest-growing industry sectors with great value and employment opportunities created, plastics is under great threat. Anti-plastic sentiments rise across the world. Caught between additional taxes and bans, the industry is looking for a way out.

The Turkish Plastics Industry Foundation (PAGEV), the uniting force of the Turkish plastics industry, will hold the 6th PAGEV International Plastic Packaging Congress to guide the future of the industry under the theme "Current Threats and Opportunities in Plastics Packaging".

The Congress, regarded one of the hallmark events in the packaging industry, will take place on October 22, 2019 at the Istanbul Swissotel TheBosphorus. Raising the stake year after year, the event will feature Turkish and foreign experts, industry representatives and academics, who will explore the future of the industry.

Participants will acquire firsthand information from European Commission Policy Officer Werner Bosmans on Europe's approach to plastics, upcoming product restrictions, possible next steps, and the implications of these changes on plastic packaging. Marco Omboni, president of the Italian Association for Producers of Rigid Plastic Packaging for Food (ProFood) will discuss the impact of EU's single-use ban on the plastics industry.

Tim Paridaens, Director of UK-based Deloitte Consulting, will explore the opportunities created by the "smart packaging market" in the industry. Another keynote speaker will be Yoav Hoshen, Co-Founder and Senior Vice President of Water.io, known for creating IoT Smart Packaging as one of the best applications of digital packaging in the world.

In the morning session, PAGEV President Yavuz Eroğlu will moderate a panel discussion on “Circular Economy and Zero Waste” where panelists EuPC Managing Director Alexander Dangis, PlasticsEurope Regional Director Giuseppe Riva and INEOS Styrolution Director of Global Strategy Johannes Musseleck will discuss circular economy practices in packaging, and the threats and opportunities awaiting the industry.

The afternoon session will feature a panel discussion moderated by KlöcknerPentaplast Vice President Kurt Kuruç on “Sustainablity in Packaging vs Brands Owners”. Panelists Unilever R&D Packaging Manager Atahan Özgünay, Coca-Cola Icecek Public Relations Director Burcu Coşkun, Danone Regulatory Manager Özlem Baykul and Evyap Chairman of the Board Mehmed Evyap will discuss what global brands do to ensure the sustainability of packaging.

Another prominent figure in the congress will be Professor Levent Kurnaz from Boğaziçi University, who recently came under the limelight with his book on climate change titled "Before the Last Glacier Melts." Kurnaz will discuss "Global Warming and Plastics" in his lecture. Please find the full program here.
